Review...

23 walks in, or just on the edges of the Peak District. No need to just stroll through the local park feeding the ducks, with your precious little one. The author has researched routes suitable for users of the so-called ‘ATP’s’, - (All-Terrain Pushchairs) taking in all the varied landscapes of the Peak. Alison has given useful information to enable you to choose a suitable pushchair and advice on such things as getting a puncture, and the type of stiles and gates that you may encounter and how to safely surmount them.

The walks are chosen to avoid as many obstacles as possible, but sometimes a stile or rocky ground is unavoidable. To enable you to decide which route would suit you the walks are graded from 1 - 5. Grade 1 walks are easy, surfaced paths, also suitable for normal pushchairs. Grade 5 - Alison says are ‘for the dedicated off-roader’. Grades in-between have varying degrees of difficulty in terms of stiles, hills, mud or rocky ground. Each walk is illustrated with a simple outline map, and black and white photos. Details are given for public transport options, ascent, start point, refreshment availably and toilet provision.

The walk instructions are supplemented by interesting background details relevant to things seen along the walk. There is also a list of things to look out for and at the back a lit of Peak District trees, with line illustrations.

This book may well encourage people who don’t normally walk in the countryside to do so. Hopefully to it will also encourage the young children to take up a life-long interest in walking and the outdoors. (Just try to avoid the Grade 5’s!).
